What Furry Con Archives is

Furry Con Archives is a public preservation project centered on furry convention history. Its live archive presents convention books, programs, schedules and other preserved records so visitors can move from an event or year into the surviving material around it.

This page is not an official Furry Con Archives statement. It documents my own web work and the design decisions I can speak to directly.

02 / Contribution

My role in the redesign

I was asked to redesign the Furry Con Archives site and am contributing to its web implementation. The work sits in a different part of my portfolio from my standalone software repositories: this is contributor web work for an existing archive with its own identity, collection and leadership.

Design priorities

  • Make convention records and preserved materials easier to find from normal navigation and search.
  • Keep source attribution close to the material it describes instead of flattening provenance into generic page copy.
  • Use durable, descriptive routes and links so individual archive resources remain useful as references.
  • Keep archive identity, external data sources and my own creator/community properties clearly separated.

03 / Provenance

The archive and convention-data ecosystem

Furry Con Archives and Consurf are separate projects with complementary roles. Furry Con Archives preserves convention material; Consurf operates a convention-planning service and describes its convention history data as an open-data repository covering furry conventions worldwide.

The redesign treats that relationship as a provenance problem first: when a record depends on another project, the interface should make the source relationship understandable instead of implying that every piece of data originated inside the archive.

Why that matters

Archive pages become stronger references when visitors can distinguish the preserved artifact, the event metadata around it, and the outside system that supplied or corroborated that metadata.

04 / Search & information design

Building links that explain relationships

The goal is not to manufacture a chain of reciprocal backlinks. The useful pattern is a contextual one: a creator portfolio can document the work I actually performed, Furry Con Archives can identify contributors where appropriate, and source/data services can be linked where they genuinely explain a record.

  • Use descriptive anchor text for Furry Con Archives, Consurf and related resources rather than generic “click here” links.
  • Keep the canonical creator identity on akasammythepuppy.me and the community identity on mellozone.site.
  • Represent FCA, Consurf and Mello Zone as distinct entities in structured data. They are related by documented work or context, not declared equivalent with sameAs.
  • Prefer first-party archive and convention-data pages as evidence for claims about those projects.
