How I build communities across platforms.

Community work

Mello Zone is a project I build, not the subject of this site

I founded Mello Zone after seeing how quickly an online community can become a member counter instead of a place people actually return to. Building it became a practical project in moderation design, platform roles, onboarding, creator support, events, public documentation, and community memory.

This creator property records what I built and what I learned. The community property at mellozone.site owns the public standards, joining information, events, safety guidance, resources, and editorial coverage so the two sites do not compete for the same search topic.

The community property explains what Mello Zone is.This portfolio explains what I built and why.

Platform architecture

What I designed each platform to do

Each platform does one job instead of carrying a copy of the whole community. The full platform directory is on Mello Zone's own site.

  1. 01

    Discord

    The primary community hub.

Onboarding, roles, everyday conversation, voice, announcements, support paths, events, creator sharing and most community organization live here.

  2. 02

    VRChat

Where chat becomes a shared place.

Meetups, world hopping, avatar nights, games, group photos, conversations and community streaming nights turn usernames into actual shared experiences.

  3. 03

    Telegram

    A second social path.

Another place to stay connected to conversation and activity without requiring every interaction to happen inside Discord.

    The Web

The public memory of the community.

Mellozone.site keeps standards, resources, safety guidance, events, creator features, editorial work and joining information from disappearing into chat history.

What I want it to feel like

A member count is not the same thing as a community.

A server can have thousands of people and still feel empty. I care more about whether somebody joins and eventually recognizes names, whether people become friends without staff manufacturing every interaction, and whether a creator feels comfortable sharing something unfinished.

I want a new adult exploring the fandom to be able to ask a basic question without being made to feel stupid. I want quieter members to be able to take a break and return without feeling as though they failed a participation test.

The smaller moments usually matter most.
Sometimes community looks like an event.Sometimes it is a group photo after world hopping.Sometimes it is two people still talking after everybody else has left.Sometimes it is somebody remembering your name the next time you show up.

Community operations

The policies live on Mello Zone; my role is building the system behind them

The canonical standards and safety information live on mellozone.site. On this portfolio, those public routes serve as evidence of the systems I help build around expectations, consent, privacy, creator ownership, moderation, accountability, and private reporting.

The design lesson is simple: community leadership is not only events and friendly copy. It also means making boundaries discoverable before a conflict and giving people a clear route when something goes wrong.

Published evidence

Community publishing belongs on the community property.

I build and contribute to public guides, standards, event coverage, and safety material through Mello Zone. Keeping that editorial library on mellozone.site gives the community one canonical publishing home while this page stays focused on my role, decisions, and community-building work.

Next community systems

What I am building toward

I do not consider Mello Zone finished, and the next stage is not simply making the number beside “members” larger. I want a stronger connection between our platforms, more consistent VRChat and gaming activity, better ways to discover creators, more public resources, stronger onboarding, and more opportunities for members themselves to influence what the community becomes.

I also want the website to become useful to people who may never join Mello Zone at all. If one of our guides answers a question, helps someone recognize a risky situation, introduces somebody to a creator, or makes the fandom easier to understand, then the community has done something useful beyond its own walls.

  1. 01Stronger connections between platforms
  2. 02More consistent VRChat and gaming activity
  3. 03Better creator discovery and public resources
  4. 04More ways for members to shape what comes next
