Seven languages, a language menu, profile icons and a For machines row

The site's main pages are now published in Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, French, Russian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, each with its own sitemap. A language menu sits in every page's header, the footer carries round profile icons and links to the files crawlers read, and the home page's row of platform buttons became one link to Connect.

Sammy approved the translated pages for publishing, asked for three more languages, and asked for a tidier footer.

Languages

  • Seven languages are live: Spanish (/es/), Brazilian Portuguese (/pt-br/), German (/de/), French (/fr/), Russian (/ru/), Japanese (/ja/) and Simplified Chinese (/zh-cn/). Each has the same eleven pages as before: home, About, Work, Projects, Community, Schedule, Live, Links, Press, the privacy policy and the terms.
  • Search engines can index them. Every version of a page lists all the others as hreflang alternates, with English as the default.
  • Each language has its own sitemap at /<code>/sitemap.xml. Each entry lists every version of the page, and robots.txt lists all seven sitemaps. The English sitemap is unchanged.
  • A language menu sits beside Display settings in every page’s header. It works without JavaScript. On a translated page it leads to the same page in each language; on a page with no translations, such as a blog post, it leads to each language’s home page.
  • Visitors whose browser prefers another language the page has see one small offer in that language, which they can accept or dismiss. Nothing redirects, so search engines and shared links always get the page that was asked for. A choice made in the menu is remembered, and the offer does not come back.
  • Japanese and Chinese headings keep normal character spacing, and Japanese headings break between phrases where the browser supports it.
  • Profile icons: Discord, Twitch, Kick, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Bluesky, X, GitHub and Mello Zone appear as round icons in one row across the top of every page’s footer, beside the name. They are the same icons the Links page uses, and Sammy’s own profiles keep their identity-verification links.
  • The home page’s Official Creator Links section no longer has its row of platform buttons. Its “Open every official link” button to the Links page stays.
  • For machines: a footer row links to the RSS feed, the sitemap (each language’s own on its pages), llms.txt, profile.json, robots.txt and security.txt, so a crawler finds them from any page.
  • A new RSS feed at /rss.xml lists the changelog and blog entries, newest first.
  • A profile file at /profile.json gives Sammy’s names, contact address, images and official profiles in schema.org form. It is the same record the Links page publishes, read from that page when the site is built, so the two always agree.
  • An even layout: the footer is now a stack of full-width rows instead of two columns, so there is no empty block under the page links. The page links sit between two thin rules, all in one row on wide screens, in seven even columns on laptops and tablets, and in two on phones. The language list and the For machines links share the next row. On phones the icons take two even rows of five, and the languages and machine-readable files follow the same two columns as the page links.

Verification

  • tools/test-site-chrome.mjs checks every page for the profile icons in order, their identity-verification links, the For machines links, and a language menu that lists every published language and marks the current one.
  • tools/test-i18n.mjs renders every page in every language and checks each language’s sitemap against what the build wrote, and that robots.txt lists it.
  • The text-fit, theme and accessibility checks cover all 77 translated pages as well as the English ones. Text-fit’s word check now treats Japanese and Chinese, which are written without spaces, as breakable between characters.
  • Pages in Russian, Japanese and Chinese, and the new header and footer, were reviewed by eye at desktop, tablet and phone widths.
  • The footer was measured from 320 to 1440 pixels wide in English, French, German, Russian and Japanese, and with Larger text: every link fits its column and nothing scrolls sideways.
